FLA

Much like the state that inspired their name, the Sarasota, Florida based band, FLA, is a creative collaboration of diverse talents and experiences that make the whole greater than the sum of its parts.  That is quite an accomplishment when you consider the pedigree of these four musicians.

Guitarist Randy Marsh and bassist Mark Waelti have been entertaining audiences along the west coast of Florida as the duo R.P.M. for the past nineteen years.   With three albums to their credit and twice named Duo of the Year by SRQ Magazine, their harmonies have been a popular mainstay in the local music scene.  During performances this past summer, the pair was often joined on stage by guitarist Larry Crane and the synergy was obvious.

From 1975 until 1991, Crane played guitar for John Mellencamp; co-writing, arranging, recording and touring with the band that Rolling Stone Magazine called “the best rock band in the U.S. today.”  Crane’s resume also includes work with Steve Earle, Rosanne Cash, John Prine, William Golden and John Fogerty. Crane has also written and recorded two critically acclaimed solo albums as well as co-written songs and produced other acts in Nashville.

Drummer Michael Finley keeps the beat for FLA.  Finley, another music industry veteran, has played with some top names including Stephen Stills, Bob Welch, Richard Elliot and Dwight Yoakam.  He also performed on the nationally televised “Motown Twenty-Fifth Anniversary Special”.

With their soaring three part harmonies and a journeyman’s approach to instrumentation, FLA will take you from the sweet sounds of the islands, to the hard driving beat of a great old classic rock tune. Add to that, some great songwriting of their own and you have a new band, with a new sound that has been twenty years in the making.
