Larry Crane will forever be known as the driving force and co-creator of what is now referred to as the “heartland rock” sound. Long time guitarist for John Mellencamp, Crane helped his fellow Seymour, Indiana native to carve out a substantial piece of American rock history. From the early years (1975), to the chart topping ’80s, he recorded, arranged, co-wrote, and toured with what Rolling Stone magazine called “the best rock band in the U.S. today…”

During that time, Larry earned his elite sideman status by working with such artists as Steve Earle, Rosanne Cash, Bonnie Raitt, Lou Reed, John Prine, William Golden, John Fogerty, and legendary producer Bob Johnston, among others.

These days, Larry’s goals are quite different. After parting ways with Mellencamp in ’91, songwriting and a rekindled love of acting has stepped to the forefront. His critically acclaimed, self-titled album was a huge hit on radio’s AAA format, while his regional hit “Independence Day” started wooing fans all across the country. Spending more time in Nashville, he soon gained a reputation as being an up-and-coming songwriter. Larry soon started co-writing with some of his old friends, who were by now thinking of him as more than just a sideman.

Larry also has a passion for helping new artists. A couple of his latest projects include, setting up a “Songwriter Seminar” for aspiring writers and producing CDs for local artists such as Don Pedigo.

While doing some local theatre, Larry was cast in a supporting role for the feature film, “Falling from Grace.” His performance as the back-woods, illegitimate brother of the main character earned him much praise from the Hollywood establishment, leaving many to wonder why they had never seen him in films before.

Larry’s latest film project is entitled “Bruised Orange.” Written and produced by John Shafer and directed by Donal Tavey, Larry is cast as an ex-convict trying to get his life back together. He also just finished a cameo role in the comedy “Highway 69, The Movie”.

Larry is currently touring in support of his new, critically acclaimed CD, “Wire and Wood”.
